We're hiring someone with 2+ years in corporate finance, FP&A or accounting at or for a tech company or startup to own the parts of finance that make a company run: vendors, spend, billing and revenue. Once those are clean, you'll use them to help decide how TextQL prices and plans for the next few years.
TextQL builds AI that analyzes enterprise data, deployed with customers in healthcare, financial services and beyond.
The team
Finance & Operations is two people today. You'd be the third, and the first person whose whole job is finance.
Bookkeeping, month-end close and tax sit with an outsourced accounting firm. You won't replace them yet but work alongside them and own everything they don't.
What you'll do
Own every finance vendor
- Own the relationship with our outsourced accounting firm
- Own the finance stack and software renewals; cut what we don't use / procure what's missing
Build the system and read it
- Set up how spend is tracked and approved, then find the trends: compute, software sprawl, cost per customer, cost per seller.
- Run monthly reporting on budget vs. actuals, burn and runway.
Make billing and revenue recognition boring
- Tighten the path from contract to invoice to cash to revenue, and reconcile usage to what we bill.
Shape pricing and long-term finance strategy
- Analyze pricing, discounting and margin by customer, and recommend how we should price.
- Be the finance voice on non-standard deals.
Who you are
- 2+ years in corporate finance, FP&A or accounting, at or for tech companies or startups.
- You know accrual accounting, the three statements and revenue recognition well enough to catch a mistake in someone else's work.
- You build spreadsheets other people can audit and trust.
- You'd rather build the system than wait for one. There's no playbook here yet.
- You put a number on it. How much is spend up MoM, what's driving it, how to reduce it
- You lead with the bad news. A missed invoice or a surprise renewal gets raised the day you find it.
- You want to work in person in New York.
Nice to have
- CPA
- Experience with usage-based or consumption billing.
- Hands-on time with billing, spend and accounting tools (Stripe, Ramp, QuickBooks or similar).
- Pricing or packaging work at a SaaS or AI company.
- You've been through a fundraise, an audit or a system migration.
Compensation & Logistics
- Total compensation: $180,000–$230,000.
- Interview: We prefer on-site interviews when feasible and can make a decision within 72 hours of your on-site. If you're outside NYC, we'll cover all travel expenses.
- Location: Five days a week in our Financial District office in NYC.
- Benefits: 401(k) matching up to 5%, top-tier health insurance, unlimited PTO, and free lunch.
- Visa sponsorship: Available. We retain immigration counsel to support the process.
