TextQL is an NYC-based startup working to drive the unit cost of a data-driven decision down to zero. Customers like Amazon, Ring, Scale AI, Lumeris, and the NBA rely on us to make better decisions, faster. We're hiring a UI designer who cares about the difference between "fine" and "great" on every pixel of every surface, marketing and product alike.
The Role
Do you have strong opinions about kerning, ramps, hierarchy, and motion? Can you point at a screen and tell us exactly why it feels wrong in 30 seconds?
This is closer to design engineering than traditional product design. You'll work across the marketing site, in-product surfaces, demo visuals, and brand collateral. The work is hands-on and shippable: build it in Figma or build it directly in code (Svelte + Vanilla Extract), iterate, polish, ship the same week.
If you've been frustrated working at companies where good taste was the third or fourth priority, this is the opposite of that.
What Success Looks Like
- Within 30 days, you've shipped polish passes across the marketing site that make existing pages noticeably better
- Within 90 days, you've designed and shipped a major net-new surface (a product page, a feature demo, a launch microsite) end-to-end
- Within 6 months, the visual identity of the product and marketing site reads as a single coherent brand, and competitors are quietly studying what we do
About You
- A portfolio that does the talking. We care more about the work than the resume. Send us your 3-5 best pieces, ideally things you can talk about in depth.
- Strong taste. You can articulate why a design works or doesn't. You have a point of view on type, color, motion, density, and rhythm.
- Comfort with code. You don't need to be a senior engineer, but you should be able to iterate in HTML/CSS or a component framework. AI tools count.
- Speed. You ship multiple polished things per week, not one perfect thing per month.
- Range. You're equally comfortable on a marketing hero, an in-product table, a deck slide, and a small illustration.
- 3+ years designing for software products, ideally with marketing-site exposure too.
- Fluency in Figma. Familiarity with design systems and tokens.
Compensation & Logistics
- Total Compensation: $200K-300K ($150K-200K base + $25K-50K bonus + $25K-50K equity)
- Interview: Send work first. We can make a decision within 72 hours of an on-site. If you're outside NYC, we'll cover travel.
- Onsite: 5 days a week in-office in FiDI, NYC
- Benefits: 401(k) matching up to 5%, top-tier health insurance, 21 days PTO, free lunch
- Visa Sponsorship: Yes. We retain immigration counsel to support the process.
The Application
We have a very simple, signal-driven process. Please send Gabriel an email with the following:
- Your portfolio or 3-5 case studies of your best work
- One paragraph on a recent piece of design you think is great (any product, any company) and why
- Your GitHub and/or LinkedIn
